Overview:
The CALI Project is proud to introduce the “Caring for Aged-Out Foster Youth” initiative, a transformative program dedicated to providing safe, quality, and affordable housing solutions for youth aging out of foster care. We are committed to providing a brighter future for youth aging out of the foster care system. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to addressing the affordable housing crisis and supporting vulnerable populations in St. Petersburg and beyond.
Our Mission:
Founded by Crystal Wharton, The CALI Project aims to deliver 100 affordable housing units by the end of 2024. Our first major milestone was the rehabilitation of a four-bedroom home with a studio and a detached accessory dwelling unit in the South St. Pete Community Redevelopment Area. This beautifully renovated property will serve as a home for six foster youth who have aged out of the system.
Key Features of the Program:
- Affordable Housing: Our goal is to provide affordable housing units to aging out foster youth. We focus on ensuring that these homes are safe, high-quality, and tailored to meet the needs of low-income individuals.
- Community Partnerships: Collaboration is at the heart of our initiative. We work closely with local housing authorities and various nonprofits to identify needs and provide sustainable housing solutions.
- Comprehensive Support: Beyond housing, we aim to offer holistic support to youth transitioning out of care, helping them achieve stability and success in their adult lives.
Get Involved:
We invite you to support our mission to stabilize our community through workforce and economic development. Your volunteer time and donations will directly impact the lives of aged-out foster youth, providing them with a safe place to call home and the opportunity to thrive.
Join us for our ribbon-cutting ceremony towards the end of June (exact date to be announced soon), hosted by the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, to celebrate the opening of our first rehabilitated home.
