Crystal Wharton: President & Executive Director:
As the Executive Director of the C.A.L.I. Project, Crystal Wharton leads a mission-driven organization that is dedicated to providing safe and affordable housing. She is passionate about addressing the unique challenges faced by this vulnerable population, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to transition into adulthood successfully.
Originally from Memphis, TN she moved to Tampa, Florida with her family in 2003, when she was 13 years old. She became pregnant as a senior in high school, which could have been a setback for many. However fueled by determination, resilience, and a strong desire to provide a great life for her child, she transformed her challenges into opportunities for growth and empowerment. Full of faith and a relentless drive to succeed, Crystal pursued her education while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood. She graduated high school, continued on to college and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from The University of South Florida.
Before joining The C.A.L.I. Project, Crystal has been in the technology field as a human resources recruiter for over 10 years, and has led multiple hiring initiatives that focus on connecting diverse and underserved individuals to opportunities in the tech field.
Beyond her professional achievements, Crystal is a passionate advocate for teen mothers and women entrepreneurs. She uses her platform to inspire and mentor others, sharing her story of resilience to success to encourage young women to pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles they face. Crystal’s vision is to create inclusive communities where everyone has access to quality housing. She is an advocate for systemic change in foster care and housing policies, and is dedicated to addressing housing challenges in her community.
